You can learn English in the UK by applying for a short-term study visa. English language courses lasting more than six months and up to eleven months are eligible for this visa.
How long you can stay:
As long as your stay doesn’t exceed 11 months, you are allowed to remain in the UK for the duration of your course plus an additional 30 days.
Fees and costs
A short-term study visa costs £200.
Healthcare surcharge
The healthcare surcharge must also be paid while completing your online application. Typically, it costs £470.
What you cannot do
You cannot:
-While in the UK, take any other course or switch to a different one.
-attend a school with state funding.
-operate or run any kind of business, including paid or unpaid labor, internships, and work experience.
-prolong this visa
-bring relatives (sometimes known as “dependants”) on this visa.
-apply for the State Pension or the majority of benefits (public funds).
Who can apply
You must be 16 or older to apply.
You must prove that:
-You’ve been accepted into an 11-month or shorter English language course with no additional coursework.
-Your course is offered by a recognized organization.
-You can live and be supported by friends and family, or you have enough money to maintain yourself without working or government assistance.
-You can cover the cost of your return or subsequent travel.
If you’re under 18 you must also:
-have planned your trip and accommodations in the United Kingdom.
-possess your parent’s or guardian’s approval to study in the UK.
Your course
Your English language course must be with an ‘accredited institution’.
This can be either:
-a UK-accredited establishment
-If you are enrolled in an abroad course in the UK, you must be enrolled in an appropriate overseas provider.
Documents you’ll need
When you apply you must provide:
-a valid travel document, such as a current passport with a blank page for your visa
-proof that you can sustain yourself while traveling, such as six months’ worth of paystubs or bank statements
-details of where you intend to stay and your travel plans – Until you receive your visa, you should wait to pay for lodging or travel.
-proof that you have paid or have the funds to pay for your course expenses
You also need to provide:
-the results of your tuberculosis (TB) test, if you’re from a nation where taking the test is mandatory.
-If you are younger than eighteen, the contact information of at least one parent or guardian in your country of origin
-If any documents are not in Welsh or English, a certified translation
Documents about your course
Written documentation of the course you are enrolled in is required. For instance, an acceptance letter from the school detailing the name, length, and cost of the course (including accommodations).
-Depending on your situation, you could be required to submit other documents, such as proof of your:
-authorization to enter the nation from which you are applying (if you are not a national)
-financial sponsor’s profession, earnings, savings, or money to help pay for your education
If you’re under 18:
If you’re under 18 you need to provide additional documents if:
-You are traveling alone.
-You are traveling with an individual who is not your guardian or parent.
Travelling on your own
You do not need an adult (someone who is at least 18 years old) to go to the UK.
Both of your parents (or just one parent if they are solely responsible) or your legal guardian must have given their written consent. This must attest to their agreement to:
-Your application for a visa
-your living situation and level of care in the UK
-Your trip to the United Kingdom
Additionally, they must show that you have an appropriate place to live while visiting the UK, such as:
-The name and birthdate of the individual with whom you will be staying
-an address at which you plan to reside
-information about you and the person who will be taking care of you
-written consent so they can take care of you while you’re in the UK.
If either of the following applies to your visit, your parent, guardian, or school is required to notify the appropriate local authority:
-You have a disability and are under the age of 18.
-You will be placed in “private foster care,” which is cared for by someone other than your immediate family, for more than 28 days.
If you have a response from the local government, you ought to provide it.
Travelling with an adult
You must specify on your visa application if you are traveling to the UK with an adult (someone who is 18 years of age or older).
If you arrive in the UK without them, you will be denied admission, and their name will be on your visa.
Your visa will only be valid if you travel with at least one of the two adults you listed in your application.
