OVERVIEW OF THE PROGRAMME The purpose of this qualification is to provide learners with the English communicative skills and knowledge needed to work in a professional environment. The qualification in English communicative skills is structured with five small units at each level, where each unit covers a specific aspect of the skill, leading to a certificate that encompasses all skill areas. We believe that learners will greatly benefit from this qualification, as it aims to enhance relevant English communicative skills and attributes. It is anticipated that the qualification will support both academic and professional growth, enabling learners to realise their own potential and contribute to the success of organisations across various sectors. RATIONALE FOR THE PROGRAMME The rationale behind this programme is to offer training for learners who want to improve their English communication skills and knowledge, which can be beneficial in a professional setting. This qualification will help learners to identify, select, and apply appropriate communicative language effectively. The programme includes interactive activities, video tutorials, case studies, group discussions, and classroom exercises to help learners continually reflect on their communicative skills and build their knowledge of the English language. It is well-suited for international students whose first language is not English. AIMS OF THE PROGRAMME This qualification offered by Imperial College of Excellence in English Communicative Skills is designed for learners who need to develop their English skills to progress in further studies, employment, or everyday life. The qualification provides an opportunity for learners to showcase their understanding, practical skills, and knowledge in English communication. Furthermore, learners will: Obtain an endorsed qualification from an internationally recognised awarding organisation. LEARNING OUTCOMES OF THE PROGRAMME Learners enrolled in the Level 2 Certificate in English Communicative Skills are expected to develop the following competencies during the programme: Be able to read and understand various types of texts. Be able to determine the purpose of texts. Be able to employ multiple strategies to comprehend texts. Be able to plan, organise, and draft their own writing. Be able to write for different purposes. ENTRY CRITERIA There are no formal prerequisites for learners to have prior qualifications. The qualification is designed to be accessible without unnecessary barriers that could limit access and progression. However, entry to the qualification will be determined through our interview process, where learners must demonstrate their capability to meet the qualification requirements and have access to necessary assessment opportunities and relevant resources. Imperial College of Excellence will conduct initial assessment activities with prospective learners to ensure the programme is suitable and that they have the potential to achieve the learning outcomes of the Level 2 Certificate in English Communicative Skills before enrolment.
